About Us
Established in 1998, Great Pond Foundation leads in estuary science and restoration, using data generated by our programs for informed pond management. Our team builds strong partnerships with neighbors; fostering learning and expertise; and sharing tools and techniques. The coastal ponds of Martha’s Vineyard are globally rare, ecologically fragile, treasures whose preservation and restoration are fundamental to the Island’s long-term sustainability. The Island depends on clean and healthy coastal waters to feed families and support the local economy. These living waters define both the spirit and the character of our community.

Last week we had the opportunity to meet with students from the Charter School to talk about how we measure abiotic🧂🌡️🌊 water quality parameters when we monitor the ponds💧. Nutrient day always brings smiles😁!
This week the team sampled 📍Edgartown Great Pond and 📍Chilmark Pond for our regular water quality monitoring and our once a month nutrient samples💧. This run marked our last nutrient run for the field season, it’s a bittersweet feeling. We bring the nutrient samples over the @mblwoodshole for filtering and processing to find out the NITROGEN & PHOSPHORUS concentrations in the ponds.
✴️Nutrient data results get back to us later in the off-season, we will keep you updated 😉
